Esbjerg Municipality has completed its first specialist dementia training course for social and health care assistants, with 19 employees graduating, DR reports.

The 10-month programme ran alongside their regular work and is part of the municipality’s effort to develop staff skills. The graduates have already begun using what they learned, said Lene Fabricius, the municipality’s head of competency development.

“They have gained tools, insight and a particular approach to working with people who have dementia,” Fabricius said.

The municipality plans to train more employees, although it has not set a target number. Fabricius said the aim is to improve the quality of its work with people living with dementia.
