Every bid for the interior finishing of the new Landspítali research building at Hringbraut exceeded the cost estimate, Morgunblaðið reports. Contractor Eykt submitted the lowest bid, at 10,254,581,446 Icelandic krónur.
That was just over 70 million krónur below the bid from ÞG verktakar, the second-lowest bidder. Þarfaþing bid 10,488,474,220 krónur, while Ístak bid 11,963,290,035 krónur. The New Landspítali public limited company’s estimate was 9,023,000,000 krónur, excluding value-added tax.
The company said the bids do not determine the final outcome of the tender. It will review how they differ from the estimate and whether bidders meet other formal requirements; the final selection may depend on additional criteria.
The 19,000-square-metre building has been cast, and work is under way on its exterior walls and roof. It will bring together all research operations at the new hospital, and the Blood Bank will also move there from Kringlan.
