Tórshavn City Council will hold an extra meeting on Monday to consider the government’s proposal to abolish port charges, KVF reports. The loss to the Port of Tórshavn is estimated at seven million kroner a year if the ferry service Strandferðslan is exempt from the fees.
The proposal, put forward by Jacob Vestergaard, the minister for business, would abolish port, bridge and cargo charges. The council’s meeting, scheduled for 4.30pm, has the proposal as its only agenda item.
The council’s port committee met earlier on Monday, approved a proposed press release and referred the matter to the full council. The director of the Port of Tórshavn has also recommended supporting the proposal.
