Faroe Islands add 894 residents as population reaches 55,640

The Faroe Islands had 55,640 residents on 1 September, up 894 people, or 1.6 per cent, over the previous year, Kringvarp Føroya reported.

Statistics Faroe Islands said population growth had picked up again after several years of relatively modest increases. The last time the population grew by as much over a 12-month period was six years ago.

Net migration accounted for 699 of the additional residents, while the birth surplus was 195.
