Turku’s new music venue, Fuuga, is preparing to welcome audiences after a construction project that cost 90 million euros and followed a lengthy debate over its location, Yle reports.
The Turku Philharmonic Orchestra has moved into the building and is taking part in acoustic tests this week. Fuuga will open to the public on October 26. The media are due to visit the venue today at noon.
The main concert hall can seat about 1,300 people, while the smaller Atelier Hall holds around 300. Lead designer Tuomas Silvennoinen has described the main hall as an attraction in itself and the roof as one of his favourite features. The roof was not part of the original design brief; the project team came up with the idea during the design competition.
The decision on Fuuga’s location was made in 2020. Groundwork began in late 2023, and the building’s interior work was completed in spring 2026.
