Great tits break migration records in Finland

Great tits are migrating in unusually large numbers in Finland, with the national record broken on two consecutive days this week, Yle reports.

BirdLife Finland, a bird conservation and birding organisation, said tens of thousands of great tits had been recorded this week at the Hanko bird station. Most great tits stay in Finland, but some migrate to Sweden or farther southwest.

The record numbers follow a successful breeding season. The great tit is Finland’s most common tit species. Its autumn migration began last week and is peaking now.
