Rising fuel costs are preventing an agreement in contract talks between the Shipmasters’ and Navigators’ Association and the Shipowners’ Association, KVF reported. A mediation effort at KG in Klaksvík failed.

Mediator Terji Sigurðsson told KVF on Saturday morning that the mediation institution had presented a proposal to the parties on Friday evening. They rejected it.

Association chairman Arnfinnur Garðalíð said crews must pay a share of fuel costs, while his members are required to pay more than one share. He said this was too much and that the association wants to change the arrangement in a new contract.
