Crown Prince Christian is open to continuing his military career after completing his lieutenant training, DR reports, citing an interview with Politiken.
“I haven’t committed myself to anything yet. I’m open to all the things that might come up, and I’m looking at the different possibilities. If a deployment came up and I had the opportunity, I would definitely find it interesting,” he told the newspaper. He did not say where he might want to be deployed.
Christian was appointed second lieutenant last summer and now serves as a platoon commander with the Royal Life Guards, helping train and lead conscripts.
He said he was glad he had joined the armed forces, although he had initially been unsure about becoming a conscript. “I remember that on the drive there, I was shaking all over. I was really nervous and thinking, ‘Am I sure I want to do this?’ I was actually very uncertain and wondered: ‘What if I don’t like it?’” he said.
Christian began his military career as a conscript at the Guard Hussar Barracks in Slagelse in February 2025. He completed conscription in August that year and began lieutenant training soon afterwards.
His father, King Frederik, is also a trained lieutenant and later completed further military training, including as a frogman with the Frogman Corps. In 2000, he spent four months deployed to Greenland with the Sirius patrol. Christian’s younger sister, Princess Isabella, began her conscription in August.
