Guðmundur Ari elected Samfylkingin deputy chairman

Guðmundur Ari Sigurjónsson, parliamentary group chairman of the Samfylkingin party, has been elected deputy chairman, mbl.is reports.

He was the only candidate at a party executive board meeting in Sandgerði and was therefore elected unopposed.

Guðmundur Ari succeeds Guðmundur Árni Stefánsson, who announced after the local elections in the spring that he intended to step down. Guðmundur Ari will serve until the next deputy chairman election, at the party’s national convention next spring.
