Two men have been sentenced to prison over a serious assault in a car park beneath Höfðatorg in Reykjavik in March, mbl.is reports.

Kareem M. M. Abufarhah was sentenced to five years and Mohamed Sayidali Ahmed to 18 months. Three men were charged with attempted murder over the attack, which took place in the early hours of March 17.

According to the indictment, the victim was hit by a car travelling at high speed in the car park. He was thrown onto the car’s bonnet and then onto the concrete floor. The indictment also said he was beaten with an object and stabbed in the buttock with a sharp weapon.

The victim suffered serious injuries, including fractures and lung contusions, and was in a life-threatening condition when he arrived at the emergency department.

Abufarhah and Ahmed were ordered to pay the victim nearly 1.5 million Icelandic krónur in compensation, plus interest and late-payment interest. The third defendant, Qossay Ali Yahya Alsadi, was cleared of the victim’s compensation claim.

Abufarhah was ordered to pay the state more than 13.6 million krónur in legal costs, while Ahmed must pay nearly 9 million. They were also jointly ordered to pay more than 4.1 million krónur for the victim’s legal representative.

Time already spent in custody will be deducted from the sentences. Abufarhah has been held since March 17 and Ahmed since March 20.
