A court in Viborg has sentenced 11 people to prison for kidnapping and assaulting a 17-year-old boy, DR reported. A unanimous panel of lay judges imposed sentences ranging from one year and three months to two years and three months.

The group was convicted of attacking the boy at Stationspladsen square in Viborg in April last year, forcing him into a car trunk and assaulting him again, including in a wooded area near Finderupvej road.

A senior prosecutor with the Central and West Jutland Police, Iben Ernst Bøttker, said she was pleased with the sentences. She said the court had found the crimes involved particularly aggravating circumstances and humiliation, warranting penalties at that level.

One defendant will be deported from Denmark and barred from re-entering the country for life.

Six of the 11 appealed immediately. One accepted the sentence, while four asked for time to consider their options. As many as 10 of the sentences may therefore be reviewed by the High Court.

The sentences were: a 29-year-old man from Hammel, one year and eight months; a 19-year-old man from Hammel, one year and three months; a 22-year-old man from Hammel, one year and three months; an 18-year-old man from Hadsten, two years and three months; a 31-year-old man from Hadsten, one year and eight months; a 19-year-old man from Hammel, one year and three months; a 23-year-old man with no fixed address, one year and nine months; a 22-year-old woman from Brabrand, one year and three months; a 20-year-old man from the Hadsten area, two years and three months; an 18-year-old man from the Hinnerup area, two years and three months; and an 18-year-old man from Hadsten, two years and three months.
