Police find weapons and explosives in Virolahti operation
Police found military explosives, unlicensed firearms and firearm parts during an operation in the Ala-Pihlaja area of Virolahti, Yle reported. They also found particularly dangerous cartridges and ammunition.
South-East Finland Police said the case involves suspected aggravated firearms and explosives offences. Officers searched the grounds of a detached house and an outbuilding as part of a police investigation.
The operation began on Tuesday morning and ended before 8 p.m. The Finnish Defence Forces assisted police in identifying the material and ensuring it could be handled safely. Police and the Defence Forces took control of the material.
No one was arrested at the scene, and police said the operation posed no danger to bystanders.
