A fire broke out early this morning in an apartment building located at Amtmannsstíg 6 in downtown Reykjavík. Firefighters responded swiftly, rescuing one resident who was subsequently taken to the emergency department. Fortunately, occupants of two other apartments safely evacuated on their own.

According to the assistant chief of the Reykjavík Fire Department, Guðjón S. Guðjónsson, the fire was significant within one of the apartments but did not spread to others. However, considerable smoke was reported on the upper floors and basement of the building.

The firefighting team successfully extinguished the flames and is currently engaged in ventilating the premises. The extent of the damage and the cause of the fire are still under investigation. It has been confirmed that only one individual was injured, correcting earlier reports that suggested two were affected.

As the situation develops, authorities are working to ensure the safety and well-being of all residents impacted by the incident.
