Organizers played a song by Stuðmenn between opening presentations at the municipalities’ finance conference, mbl.is reported. The song, “Að vera í sambandi með Stuðmönnum” (“Being in touch with Stuðmenn”), was the entrance music for Arnar Þór Sævarsson, chief executive of the Association of Icelandic Municipalities, and Central Bank Governor Ásgeir Jónsson.

The song’s title is a play on words: the conference is organized by the Association, which is commonly known as Sambandið.

The two-day conference brings together local government representatives and municipal experts from across Iceland to discuss local authority finances. On Thursday morning, speakers include Association leaders, the central bank governor and ministers. Afternoon sessions cover labour issues, education and welfare, and digital development.

Friday’s programme includes talks on preschool operating models, challenges in welfare services, municipal financing and high-tech incineration.
