The chair of VR says the situation is unchanged after the union’s board decided to terminate its collective agreements on Wednesday. Halla Gunnarsdóttir told mbl.is on Thursday that she would consult with the unions VR is acting alongside.

The group is due to meet at around 10 a.m. Halla expects them to go to the offices of Samtök atvinnulífsins, Iceland’s employers’ association, around midday to give notice of the agreements’ termination.

“There has been no response from SA,” Halla said. She said she understood that most of the association’s staff had left on an annual party trip.

Halla said the situation was becoming very serious and blamed SA. VR had made substantial efforts to accommodate the association, she said, but had received nothing in response.
