Municipal councillor and doctor Jens Tilma stitched a cut in his knee at home after falling during a run on Tuesday morning, DR reports. A video of the procedure has since been widely shared.
Tilma, who represents Thisted Municipality, said he decided to treat the wound himself because he had the skills and did not want to take an appointment from someone who needed medical care.
His wife discreetly filmed him as he stitched the cut in an armchair in their living room. Sterile covering and an open rubbish bin were set up nearby. Tilma said the working position was not ideal, but added that he stitched the wound as he would a patient’s. He can walk on the leg and says his knee is feeling better, though he can still feel it.
The video was also shared by influencer Anders Hemmingsen on Instagram. Tilma said he was surprised by the attention but wanted to make the point that people should see a doctor when it makes sense. He added that anyone who needs help getting stitches should receive it.
