West Nordic leaders meet in Iceland to discuss shared interests

The leaders of Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands will meet in Iceland on Wednesday to discuss shared interests, mbl.is reports. Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir is hosting the meeting, which begins at 5 p.m.

Greenlandic Premier Jens Frederik Nielsen and Faroese Prime Minister Beinir Johannesen will hold consultations with Frostadóttir. They will also visit the security area at Keflavík Airport and meet international investors focused on opportunities in the West Nordic region and the Arctic.

The meeting is the first time the leaders of the three West Nordic governments have gathered in one of the countries specifically to consult on shared interests. It is also the first visit to Iceland by the Greenlandic and Faroese leaders since they took office.

The meeting follows Frostadóttir’s first bilateral visits as prime minister, to Tórshavn in May and Nuuk in October last year. It will be streamed live.
