A cyberattack on Bakkafrost is unlikely to have major consequences, KVF reports. Hackers accessed the company’s computer systems last Thursday, and it reported the breach to the Data Protection Authority within the required 72 hours, director Tóri Højgaard said.
The authority has not yet reached a conclusion, but Højgaard said the review is unlikely to take long.
The Data Protection Authority has received between 70 and 80 reports of security breaches this year. Most cases are closed without further action.
Companies must explain what happened, how they tried to prevent harm, how they limited any damage and what they have done to prevent a recurrence. If the authority considers the answers satisfactory, it closes the case. Otherwise, it may take further action, which can lead to a substantial fine calculated according to the company’s turnover.
