Reykjavík Geothermal has hired geoscientist Ásdís Benediktsdóttir as director of geosciences, Helga Jóna Jónasdóttir as a project manager and Kristín Guðmundsdóttir as a specialist on its development team, mbl.is reports.
The company said the appointments would strengthen its team and support the continued development of geothermal projects in Iceland and abroad.
Reykjavík Geothermal has expanded its workforce in recent months, hiring staff in finance, communications and marketing, environmental and stakeholder relations, project management, geoscience, engineering and finance. More than 500 applications were received after the company advertised positions earlier this year, according to its announcement.
The company completed financing earlier this year to support the continued development of its projects. These include Bolaalda in Ölfus, which Iceland’s parliament placed in the utilisation category of the framework plan this summer. Exploratory drilling also began on Tenerife in the spring, where Reykjavík Geothermal is working with partners on a project that could help improve energy security and support a more sustainable energy future for the Canary Islands.
Chief Executive Magnús Dagur Ásbjörnsson said the three new hires bring valuable knowledge and experience to the company’s upcoming projects. He said Reykjavík Geothermal aims to become one of the world’s leading geothermal development companies and use its expertise to improve energy security and support a more sustainable future.
