Nature can act as a form of medicine for stress and depression, Danish television doctor Peter Qvortrup Geisling told KVF, while noting that more research is needed.

Geisling said spending more time outdoors benefits both children and adults. Nature can support mental and physical health, he said, and may sometimes offer an alternative to exercising in a gym.

He also said time outdoors helps people slow down and take a break from the demands of modern life, which he described as involving too many tasks and too much pressure.

This week’s Heilsuhornið health programme examines how nature may have a healing effect on people.
