The Kainuu Border Guard District recorded 10 minor state border offences in September, all involving unauthorised movement in the border zone in Kuhmo, Yle reported.
In nine cases, the suspected offenders were foreign nationals working in Finland. Two were berry picking, while the others were planting forest, said Antti Salo, a crime prevention officer with the district.
The number of cases recorded in one month was unusual, Salo said. In practice, however, they amounted to three incidents involving several people.
Separate hunting investigations
In September, the Border Guard District monitored hunting with other authorities and a Metsähallitus game warden. The checks uncovered one firearms offence.
The district also opened investigations into aggravated hunting and unlawful interference with possession. The aggravated hunting case concerns the suspected use of a food bait to hunt a bear in Suomussalmi.
The possession case involves a game camera and food bait placed on someone else’s land without the landowner’s permission, Salo said.
