Leaders from Iceland, Greenland and the Faroe Islands are meeting in Reykjavík to discuss shared interests, including security and the Arctic, KVF reports.
Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir invited Faroese Prime Minister Beinir Johannesen and Greenlandic government leader Jens-Frederik Nielsen. It is the first time the three leaders have met in person in one of their countries to discuss issues of common interest. It is also the first visit to Iceland as leaders for both Johannesen and Nielsen.
The leaders will be briefed on the security situation at Keflavík Airport and meet international investors focused on the West Nordic region.
“The West Nordic region, to which our countries belong, has been at the centre of international discussions in recent months,” Frostadóttir said, according to the Icelandic prime minister’s office. She said residents of the region recognise the security challenges in the North Atlantic and take their responsibilities seriously.
Frostadóttir said it was important to discuss both the security situation and the region’s opportunities.
