The European Parliament has approved 410,310 euros in support for former employees of Valmet Automotive’s plant in Uusikaupunki, Yle reports.

The package passed by 601 votes to 57, with nine members abstaining. It will fund job-search training, career coaching and vocational training, and provide livelihood support for people starting businesses.

Parliament also approved two other support packages, for Belgium and Spain. Earlier this year, the Finnish government announced separate funding for the Vakka-Suomi region because of a sudden structural change.

Valmet Automotive laid off 233 workers in Uusikaupunki last year. The company has since announced new partners, including defence company Patria, which ordered hundreds of armoured vehicles from the plant in June. The order will run for several years.
