Helsinki police have opened a criminal investigation into suspected intrusions at the homes of several members of parliament, Yle reports. The cases are being investigated as attempted aggravated theft.

Police said they are working closely with Parliament and the National Bureau of Investigation, and will involve the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service if necessary. They have not assessed who may have been responsible or what their motives might have been.

According to information obtained by Yle, fewer than 20 homes may have been targeted. No signs of forced entry have been found, and nothing has been stolen or damaged. However, signs have been left inside the homes that residents would not normally notice.

Parliament announced the suspicions a week ago, when police said they would begin a preliminary inquiry. Police plan to provide their next update on Wednesday, October 14.
