Flight evacuated at Trondheim airport after emergency slides deployed
The police received a report at 8:40 AM regarding the evacuation of a flight after the emergency slides were deployed.
Siv Johnsvold from Trondheim, who was on a business trip that morning, described the situation as dramatically unfolding. “It was a completely normal flight. A nice trip and a good landing,” she said. However, things changed abruptly when the passengers were instructed to remain seated. Johnsvold noticed flight attendants staring in amazement at the plane from her window.
Initially, she thought she misheard the pilot mention an evacuation. Minutes later, panic set in as the evacuation slides were deployed, and passengers were ordered to leave their belongings behind. Outside, a substantial presence of fire and police vehicles was visible. Authorities later indicated that the evacuation resulted from a misunderstanding.
Johnsvold remarked on the chaotic start to her day. “It was quite dramatic,” she said, noting her disappointment in not receiving clear information about the situation.
Avinor has stated they are awaiting further details from SAS, the airline involved. A spokesperson for the police, Ronny Samuelsen, confirmed that an emergency procedure was mistakenly activated and could not be reversed. The police are investigating the cause of this error. Standard alcohol tests were conducted on the crew, resulting in no issues. All passengers have been safely evacuated, with no injuries reported.
Johnsvold expressed her desire for timely updates to reassure passengers during such incidents, stating, “You become a bit anxious when something like this happens.”
