Naantali, Suomen Joutsen, Turku

The museum ship Suomen Joutsen is due to leave its berth in Turku’s Aura River for a rare transfer to a repair yard in Naantali, Yle reports. The move is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

The ship last made the journey to a dock from the Aura River 10 years ago. It is expected to spend two weeks at the Naantali repair yard, where its surfaces will be sandblasted and painted.

The current overhaul began in 2024, and restoration work is due to continue until 2028. The project costs two million euros. A renovation of this scale is carried out about once every 30 years.

Suomen Joutsen was built in France in 1902 as a cargo ship. Finland bought it in 1930 to serve as a naval training ship, with a crew of 180 at the time.
