Workplace teams compete for Icelandic quiz championship
Companies from across Iceland will compete for the country’s first workplace quiz championship this winter, mbl.is reports. Quiz host Björn Bragi Arnarsson will bring together the winning teams from workplace competitions for a final in December.
Arnarsson told mbl.is that the idea grew from rising demand for him to host quiz competitions at companies and workplaces. Interest increased steadily in recent years and was especially strong last year, prompting him to link the individual contests in a national championship.
He will host each competition at the workplace, with the winning team earning a place in the final. Participants come from a range of industries, including banks, insurance companies and container firms.
Arnarsson said it is difficult to predict which profession or type of workplace might win. The questions cover a broad range of subjects, so education and job titles do not necessarily determine the outcome.
He said he can often tell when he arrives which teams are especially determined to win. Some take part mainly for fun, while others come ready to compete. “We Icelanders are naturally quiz-mad,” he said.
The December final will decide the Icelandic champion and award a trophy. Further prizes are planned, though they have not yet been confirmed. Arnarsson will host the final as well as the workplace contests.
