Talks between VR, the Federation of Icelandic Commercial Workers and the Professional Associations and the Confederation of Icelandic Employers made some progress on Tuesday morning, VR chair Halla Gunnarsdóttir told mbl.is. The parties are discussing what would be needed to keep their current collective agreements in force.
The employers’ association was due to meet at noon. Gunnarsdóttir said she hoped discussions would resume afterwards, adding that time was short and talks needed to continue as soon as possible.
A clause in collective agreements signed in 2024 was triggered after inflation in August exceeded 4.7 per cent. It allows the agreements to be terminated, but any termination must be made by Thursday afternoon, October 8.
