Faroese shipowners expect to keep selling blue whiting after the fish lost its MSC sustainability certification, KVF reports. The head of the Faroese Shipowners Association says it is too early to draw conclusions about the impact.

“We have to see how things develop and not jump to conclusions,” said Stefan í Skorini, the association’s director.

The key question for the companies is whether losing the certification will affect the market and the price. Blue whiting has fetched about 3.25 kroner per kilo so far this year, with prices rising slightly after the summer holiday.

Í Skorini said there was no need to worry about the situation for now.
