Eastern Uusimaa District Court has convicted a retired police officer of breach of official duty, Yle reports. The case concerns a suicidal woman who needed an ambulance at her home in Vantaa in April 2023.

The officer, who was working as a field commander at the time, failed to carry out an emergency dispatch task concerning the woman. He marked it as completed in the system, although no police patrol went to the address. The woman was found dead in her apartment the next day.

The court rejected a separate charge of causing death through negligence.

The officer has previously been convicted twice of breach of official duty for unlawfully accessing information about his former wife and her child. Charges of stalking his wife and assault while on duty were dismissed. He was also suspected of assaulting a one-year-old child, but the prosecutor decided in 2024 not to bring charges because the time limit for prosecution had expired.

The officer has appeared in the television series Poliisit and has worked at least at the Eastern Uusimaa Police Department.
