Newly laid asphalt on two pedestrian and cycle paths in central Rovaniemi was cut open for fibre-optic cable work, Yle reported in a video report by Ari Hursti.
The paths on Toripuistikko and Korkalonkatu had been without asphalt for years because of construction work. They were resurfaced last month, but the new pavement was soon dug up for the cable installation.
Yle’s report examines why the cables were not installed before the paths were paved. The city says it lacks the resources to coordinate work so that everyone wishing to lay cables underground can do so while a street is already open.
