The Britax Römer Baby-Safe Pro car seat, when used with the Vario Base 5Z base, could put a child at risk of serious injury in a crash, SVT reported, citing tests by the magazine Råd & Rön.

In frontal crash tests, the car seat’s harness buckle released and came off completely, throwing the crash-test dummy out of the seat.

The problem occurred when the seat was in a reclined position. The buckle remained in place when the seat was upright and when it was installed using the car’s seat belt instead of the base.

Råd & Rön recommends not using the Baby-Safe Pro with the Vario Base 5Z in a reclined position. Manufacturer Britax Römer has been informed and is investigating. No decision has been made on whether to recall the seat or stop selling it.
