A man has been fined 20,000 kroner after keeping 8 tonnes and 233 kilograms of fireworks in his basement, KVF reported. The fireworks, which police have in their custody, will be confiscated and destroyed.

The court acquitted the man of breaking the Criminal Code but convicted him of violating the fireworks regulation. He admitted to that offence but denied the Criminal Code charge.

He had been charged under Section 252, which provides for up to eight years in prison for causing an imminent danger to another person’s life or physical safety through gross recklessness or similar conduct. Prosecutors sought a prison sentence for that charge. The fireworks were estimated to be worth more than 200,000 kroner.
