Rubio puts closer defence ties on agenda in Iceland

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said his visit to Iceland was aimed at advancing shared priorities, including a secure Arctic and closer defence cooperation, mbl.is reported.

Rubio also cited stronger commercial and energy ties in a post on X.

He met Icelandic Foreign Minister Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir on arriving in Keflavík. A heavy security presence was seen in central Reykjavík when his entourage arrived at his accommodation, with special forces members on duty to protect him.
