Aalborg politicians push for permanent free hospital parking
Politicians on the regional council will work to make parking permanently free for everyone at Aalborg’s new hospital, DR reports.
Regional council chair Mads Duedahl said parking revenue could be lower than expected. The hospital appears to have enough spaces for both staff and visitors now that it has been fully operational earlier this year, he said.
Paid parking was originally intended to prevent people from occupying spaces longer than necessary. The administration will now assess how making parking free would affect the hospital’s finances and parking capacity. Politicians expect to reach a decision before Christmas.
Paid parking has previously sparked debate, particularly when the region announced that hospital employees would have to pay through their salaries to park there. That plan was later withdrawn. The hospital has nearly 3,400 parking spaces.
