Representatives from the British company Stallion AI Services are currently in the Faroe Islands to collect semen from local stallions.

The first attempts to gather semen took place at the Agricultural Agency in Kollafjørður on Sunday. Reports indicate that the initial efforts were highly successful, according to the organization Faroese Horses.

Collection activities are expected to continue throughout the week, with each collection having the potential to be used for five or six inseminations.

Since 1978, Faroese Horses has been working to establish a genetic bank of frozen equine semen and to create a genetic profile of the horse population in the Faroe Islands.

Currently, there are 26 stallions, 42 mares, and 14 geldings in the Faroese horse population.
