Five Colombian nationals have been charged in cocaine smuggling cases, and police will seek to keep them in pre-trial detention, mbl.is reports. Their current detention orders expire today.

Suðurnes police confirmed in a written response to mbl.is that the investigations are complete and charges have been filed. Three of the five are members of the same family.

The family arrived in Iceland in the early hours of July 29 and was arrested at Keflavík Airport with 2.4 kilograms of cocaine. The following day, customs officers stopped two other Colombian nationals arriving from Spain; they had 1.7 kilograms of cocaine in their luggage.
