Blue whiting loses sustainability certification

Blue whiting can no longer be used in aquaculture feed after the fishery lost its sustainability certification, KVF reports. Coastal states have failed to agree on fishing quotas and are not following advice from the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES).

The loss of certification is not due to the condition of the blue whiting stock, the report says. Fishmeal and fish oil producers, including Havsbrún, are working to obtain a new sustainability certification.
