New Arnarnesvegur section opens to traffic today
A new section of Arnarnesvegur will open to traffic at 2 p.m. on Monday, between Rjúpnavegur in Kópavogur and Breiðholtsbraut in Reykjavík, mbl.is reports.
Work has recently focused on connecting the new road infrastructure to existing roads. In Kópavogur, a new roundabout is being built to link the new section with the older part of Arnarnesvegur. To the north, Breiðholtsbraut is being widened to the Elliðaár river.
Crews are completing embankments, lighting and guardrails along the new road, while paving pedestrian and cycle paths.
Construction by Loftorka and Suðurverk is part of the Capital Region transport agreement, which aims to improve facilities for different modes of transport and create safer routes across the urban area.
