court verdict, crime, Kemi

A man from Kemi has been fined 180 euros for leaving his mother’s body in the kitchen of their shared apartment for nearly a month, Yle reports.

The Lapland District Court sentenced the roughly 50-year-old man to 30 day-fines for violating the sanctity of the dead. The court said he had treated the unburied body in a way that caused offence by failing to tell anyone his mother had died.

The body remained on the kitchen floor until the man’s son visited the apartment and notified the authorities. The man admitted during the pre-trial investigation that he had acted as described in the charge.

The judgment is not yet final.
