Tests find mold indicators at Húnaþing vestra town hall

Air-quality tests found strong indications of active mold growth and a significant source of fungi at the Húnaþing vestra town hall in Hvammstangi, mbl.is reported.

The specialists’ report describes serious air-quality problems in the building’s basement and first floor. Conditions on the upper floor appear to be within limits, but that floor also needs inspection.

The report says the town hall cannot be considered to be in good condition based on the factors measured. It recommends finding and stopping possible sources of moisture, treating confirmed damage, cleaning contaminated surfaces and checking the results with follow-up measurements.

The municipality’s environment, utilities and works council proposed moving town hall operations temporarily to the community hall in Hvammstangi. Staff will work there while the municipality awaits further findings and investigations and responds to the specialists’ recommendations.
