Air-quality tests have found strong evidence of active mold growth and a significant source of fungi in the Húnaþing vestra town hall in Hvammstangi, mbl.is reported Sunday.

Experts found serious air-quality problems in the basement and on the first floor. Air quality on the upper floor appears to be within limits, but that floor still needs inspection.

The report says the town hall cannot be considered to be in good condition based on the factors measured. It recommends identifying and stopping possible sources of moisture, treating confirmed damage, cleaning contaminated surfaces and checking the results with repeat measurements.

The municipality’s environment, utilities and works committee proposed this week that town hall operations move temporarily to the Hvammstangi community hall. They are expected to remain there while the findings and further investigations are awaited and the experts’ recommendations are addressed.
