Magnitude 3.4 earthquake recorded in Vatnajökull

A magnitude 3.4 earthquake was recorded between Hamurinn and Skaftárkatlar in Vatnajökull on Sunday, mbl.is reports, citing the Icelandic Meteorological Office.
The earthquake struck at 12.18 p.m. in an active seismic zone. No reports said it was felt in populated areas, and no unrest accompanied it.
The last earthquake of magnitude 3 or higher in the area was recorded on December 10, 2025, during a swarm. The largest quake in that swarm measured 3.94 on December 6, 2025.
