Three rescue teams were dispatched in the South of Iceland this evening to assist two foreign hikers on Fimmvörðuháls. The hikers had requested help as the weather worsened, making it difficult for them to continue their trek.

According to Brynja Sverrisdóttir, the chief constable of the South Iceland Police, the hikers were not in immediate danger but were experiencing cold and discomfort. The rescue operation highlights the importance of being prepared for rapid weather changes in the region, particularly for those unfamiliar with the area’s unpredictability.
