Meteorological Office warns of landslides in northern Westfjords

The Meteorological Office has issued a yellow landslide warning for the northern Westfjords because of an increased risk of landslides and rockfalls, mbl.is reports.

Landslides and rockfalls have occurred in the region in recent days. On Friday, a large landslide hit the road to Hnífsdalur, forcing a temporary closure.

Further rainfall is expected to increase the risk of more landslides and sudden road closures. Westfjords police are urging drivers to take care, monitor conditions and check road information before setting out.
