BirdLife Finland urges public to log autumn bird sightings

BirdLife Finland is encouraging people to watch for migrating birds and record their sightings on Saturday, Yle reports. Bird walks and guided autumn migration watches are also being held around the country.

The first weekend of October is the annual EuroBirdwatch event, which covers Europe and Central Asia. BirdLife Finland asks people to enter all their bird observations in the Tiira bird data service by Sunday afternoon. The number of individual birds observed will be included in a Europe-wide tally.

Large numbers of wood pigeons, fieldfares, geese and smaller waterbirds migrated during the past week, according to BirdLife Finland.
