A prosecutor is seeking a 16-year prison sentence for Georgios Ntentes, accused of murder in the Kársnes case, mbl.is reported. Karl Ingi Vilbergsson of the District Prosecutor’s Office said the killing was intentional and that the victim’s injuries showed the attack was violent and brutal.

Vilbergsson told Reykjanes District Court that the defendant’s account had been inconsistent and changed several times since the case began. He said bloody shoeprints were found in the victim’s apartment, along with a bloodstain on the front-door handle. Investigators also found 25 biological samples at the scene that could be linked to the accused, including one from a knife handle.

Asked by the judge about possible motives, Vilbergsson said: “The same as we always have: money and drugs.” The court is expected to announce its verdict within four weeks.

The trial of Georgios began on Tuesday. He is accused of killing a man in his forties at the man’s home on Skjólbraut on the evening of November 28. According to the indictment, he stabbed the man three times in the abdomen, cut and stabbed him several times in the neck with a sharp-edged object, and struck or pressed the front of his neck. The man died after losing a large amount of blood. Georgios denies the charge.
