Public relations consultant and podcast host Andrés Jónsson has named six executives he believes could be considered for the top job at Landsvirkjun, the electricity company, mbl.is reports.
Hörður Arnarson is stepping down after 17 years as CEO. Deputy CEO Kristín Linda Árnadóttir will take over on an interim basis on November 1, while a recruitment process gets under way.
In a newsletter for his podcast, Ræðum það…, Jónsson linked Hörður’s departure to the recent appointment of Landsvirkjun’s board, saying clashes with the new board had contributed to his decision to leave.
Five women and one man named
The six executives named are Tinna Traustadóttir, Birna Ósk Einarsdóttir, Stefanía Guðrún Halldórsdóttir, Ragna Árnadóttir, Ásta Fjeldsted and Tómas Már Sigurðsson. Jónsson also questioned whether the company might be seeking to appoint a woman.
Tinna, Landsvirkjun’s managing director of sales and services, is said to have been among the names most frequently discussed within the company. She has taken part in negotiations with its largest customers over electricity sales contracts.
Birna is CEO of Húsasmiðjan and previously worked at Landsvirkjun, Icelandair and APM Terminals. Jónsson pointed out that she and Landsvirkjun board chair Brynja Baldursdóttir previously worked together at Síminn.
Stefanía, CEO of Avalanche Studios, formerly led sales and services at Landsvirkjun and took part in negotiations with large electricity users.
Ragna, CEO of Landsnet, was Landsvirkjun’s deputy CEO for several years. She has also served as justice minister and as director of the Alþingi’s administration.
Ásta, CEO of Festi, was named for her business experience, engineering education and previous work at Viðskiptaráð.
Tómas, CEO of HS Orka, is the only man on the list. Jónsson said his background in the energy industry and heavy industry could suit the role. Tómas previously worked for Alcoa for many years, both in Iceland and abroad.
Board chair also mentioned
Jónsson also raised the possibility that Brynja Baldursdóttir could seek the CEO position herself. She has led Motus and held management roles at Síminn and Creditinfo.
No decision has been made on who will take the job permanently. The names are speculation by Jónsson and Góð samskipti about potential candidates.
