Three wild boar shot in the town of Iisalmi last weekend did not have African swine fever, Yle reports. The Finnish Food Authority completed tests on the animals on Thursday.
A large herd was seen in Iisalmi last Saturday, and hunters shot three of the animals. The boar did not enter the town centre and were believed to have moved east.
Authorities have raised the region’s preparedness level because of the risk of African swine fever. Emergency veterinarian Anna-Mari Olbricht has advised pig farms to strengthen their disease protection measures and prepare for the possibility that the disease could be detected in the region.
African swine fever has been detected in south-eastern Finland this year.
