Four centre-right parties on Copenhagen City Council want to examine whether Sikandar Siddique should be reported to police over alleged offences linked to a housing case that cost him his council seat, DR reports.

The parties want to assess whether there are grounds to report the Frie Grønne leader for document forgery, giving false testimony or related offences. They also want the municipal administration to examine whether he should repay the remuneration he received as an elected representative and whether he could be fined under the CPR Act.

The proposal, put forward by the Conservative People’s Party, Venstre, the Liberal Alliance and the Danish People’s Party, is on the agenda for the council’s meeting on October 8.

Copenhagen Municipality previously ruled that Siddique did not live at the address in the municipality he had declared when standing in last November’s local election, meaning he was not eligible to run there. The Ministry of Digital Affairs upheld the decision on September 8.

Siddique said the parties’ plans did not surprise him. “It is theatre to get attention. Nothing else,” he said in a written response, adding that he believes the case is political.

He has said throughout the process that he moved away from his family and their house in Herlev before the election to live in an apartment in Copenhagen. He rejected the allegations the parties want investigated, saying neither the municipality’s decision nor the ministry’s decision mentioned fraud and that he had not been accused of cheating.
